Mission

Founded in 1960, the National School of Banking is a graduate level program designed to provide an in-depth study of today’s community bank industry. The School prepares talented professionals to move from a functional role to the responsibility of senior management. Organizational leadership, not technical proficiency, is a critical focus of the School’s curriculum.

Like the industry it serves, the National School maintains its quality and effectiveness through constant revision and refinement of its curriculum. Over the years, the school has undergone changes in its name, its direction and the intensity of its program. Through all of the adjustments, however, the guiding principle of the school’s administration has been to maintain the quality of education and to adhere to the high standards met by the more than 3,400 graduates of this highly regarded school of bank management and finance.

Objectives

The National School of Banking has five major objectives:

  • Increase the effectiveness of high-potential managers and prepare them for broader responsibilities in banking.
  • Expand the focus of problem-solving skills from a department outlook to an institution-wide and industry-wide perspective.
  • Develop the analytical skills and management effectiveness required to direct the operations of a financial institution.
  • Improve the ability to respond creatively to changes in the financial services industry.
  • Provide students of diverse organizational backgrounds with an overview of the industry’s major functional areas aimed at broadening their career opportunities.
