BANKING REGULATORS, SECONDARY MARKET OFFICIALS HEADLINE AMERICA’S COMMUNITY BANKERS’ ANNUAL CONVENTION

WASHINGTON, D.C. — More than 1,800 community bankers, directors and other attendees will meet in Seattle Oct. 29 through Nov. 1 to hear banking regulators, top officials of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and a nationally known political prognosticator at the ninth Annual Convention of America’s Community Bankers.

The convention, one of the largest gatherings of community bank executives in the country, and the Market Expo business show, featuring more than 100 exhibitors, will be held in Seattle at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center and the Westin Seattle Hotel.

America’s Community Bankers represents the nation’s community banks of all charter types and sizes. ACB members pursue progressive, entrepreneurial and service-oriented strategies in providing financial services to benefit their customers and communities.

Leaders from government and industry will address bankers on such subjects as technology, marketing, management techniques, legislative and regulatory issues, and other topics related to Community Banking in a Dot-Com World, the convention’s theme.

For the fourth consecutive year, ACB will cybercast selected convention speeches live on the Internet. A complete schedule will be posted at www.AmericasCommunityBankers.com.

For the 10th consecutive year, ACB will sponsor a major fundraiser during the convention for a local charity. ACB Housing Partners Foundation, the national trade group’s philanthropic arm, plans to raise funds for Seattle Children’s Home, a comprehensive health facility offering a wide variety of services for children and youth in crisis. The check presentation will be made Tuesday evening, Oct. 31, at a fundraising concert featuring Marilyn McCoo of the Fifth Dimension.

All sessions are open to registered press. Speakers at the convention include:

* Roger Ferguson, vice chairman, Federal Reserve Board.
* Donna Tanoue, chairman, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
* Ellen Seidman, director, Office of Thrift Supervision.
* Franklin Raines, chairman and CEO, Fannie Mae.
* Leland Brendsel, chairman and CEO, Freddie Mac.
* Rep. Jennifer Dunn (R-Wash.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Fitzgerald, chairman and CEO, Commercial Federal Bank, FSB, Omaha, Neb.; incoming ACB Chairman David A. Bochnowski, chairman, president and CEO, Peoples Bank, Munster, Ind.; and ACB President Diane M. Casey.

Also on tap is a one-day Directors’ Conference, which will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29, prior to the opening of the Annual Convention.

Press credentials will be required for admission to all events. Reporters can pick up badges and press packets from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29; and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30 and Tuesday, Oct. 31.
