ACB NAMES MICHAEL BRIGGS SENIOR COUNSEL FOR CORPORATE AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – America’s Community Bankers has named Michael W. Briggs senior counsel for corporate and regulatory affairs, a new position.

Briggs will serve as legal adviser to ACB President and CEO Diane M. Casey on legal issues involving the association and its members, including banking litigation. He also will be the primary liaison with ACB’s outside general counsel, Brock Landry of Venable, Baetjer, Howard & Civiletti, LLP.

"Michael’s many talents, combined with his expertise in banking issues and the law, will make him an invaluable asset to the ACB senior management team and to our members," Casey said. "He is a proven leader with a ‘can do’ attitude. Michael has already accomplished much in his brief tenure here, and I look forward to his taking on even greater responsibilities on behalf of ACB and our members," Casey added.

Briggs joined ACB in 2000 from Bank of America in Charlotte, N.C., where he served as assistant general counsel for regulatory affairs, supporting the bank’s consumer lending, credit card, mortgage finance, private banking and deposit business unites. Previously, he was regulatory relations attorney for Barnett Bank, Jacksonville, Fla., for five years.

He holds an LL.M. degree in financial services law studies from the Boston University School of Law and a J.D. degree (cum laude) from the Drake University Law School, Des Moines, where he was managing editor of the Drake Law Review.
