‘SHAPING OUR FUTURE’ IS THEME
OF ACB’S 2003 ANNUAL CONVENTION
WASHINGTON, D.C. — “Shaping Our Future” is the theme of America’s Community Bankers’ 2003 Annual Convention, Oct. 19-22, at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel. The conference will focus on major issues facing community bankers today, including leadership challenges, bottom-line business solutions, innovations in technology, new marketing strategies and changes in legislation and regulation.
More than 2,000 bankers, directors, spouses and exhibitors are expected to attend the convention, one of the largest gatherings of community bank executives in the country.
Bankers will hear from FDIC Chairman Donald Powell; Office of Thrift Supervision Director James Gilleran; Federal Reserve Board Gov. Susan Schmidt Bies; Lawrence Lindsey, former assistant to President Bush for economic policy and a former governor of the Federal Reserve; and Mary Matalin, former assistant to President Bush and counselor to Vice President Cheney.
Other speakers will include Alvin Toffler, world-renowned futurist and author; Frank Abagnale, a recognized authority on fraud prevention; General Barry McCaffrey (Ret.), commentator for NBC News and professor at West Point; Eugene Ludwig, former Comptroller of the Currency; actor and former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.); and Richard Teerlink, retired chairman of Harley-Davidson, Inc.
Also addressing the convention will be ACB Chairman D. Russell Taylor, president and CEO, Rahway Savings Institution, Rahway, N.J.; incoming ACB Chairman William W. Zuppe, president and COO, Sterling Savings Bank, Spokane, Wash.; and ACB President and CEO Diane Casey-Landry.
ACB and its Housing Partners Foundation, the awarding-winning spouses’ philanthropic organization, will celebrate 13 years of giving back to convention cities by joining with Habitat for Humanity’s Las Vegas affiliate to sponsor a Habitat build.
ACB members and spouses will begin framing a single-family house in nearby Henderson, Nev., a suburb of Las Vegas. The build is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, the day before the convention officially opens. At ACB’s 2002 convention, members helped build a Habitat condominium in San Francisco.
A one-day Directors’ Forum, focusing on challenges facing trustees and directors of community banks, is scheduled for Oct. 19. The forum will be presented by ACB with the National Association of Corporate Directors.
ACB’s highly regarded business show, the Market Expo, will feature well over 100 exhibitors, featuring a full array of products and services for financial institutions. ACB Business Partners, Inc., ACB’s for-profit subsidiary, will make several business solutions presentations on mortgage, credit card and financial products.
ACB will have a fully equipped convention newsroom. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided each day for registered press.
Registration for working press is complimentary. To register, or for more information, please call Bob Schmermund, Jim Eberle or Josh Shusko at (202) 857-3100.
