ACB STATEMENT ON OTS NOMINATION
Statement by Diane Casey-Landry, president and CEO, America’s Community Bankers, on President Bush’s intention to nominate John Reich to be director of the Office of Thrift Supervision:
John Reich is an excellent choice to be the next director of the Office of Thrift Supervision.
As a former community banker, John has first-hand knowledge of the banking industry and has demonstrated this expertise in his current position. He understands the challenges facing today’s community banks and uses this knowledge in his role as a regulator.
As vice chairman of the FDIC, he has spearheaded an important interagency project to reduce the burden of unnecessary and obsolete regulations.
John has also spoken out in general on the cumulative burden of regulation on community banks, and has said that overregulation threatens the future of community banking.
He will also bring to the OTS position experience with the legislative process, having worked as chief of staff for former Sen. Connie Mack (R-Fla.) before joining the FDIC.
We hope for a speedy confirmation process.
America’s Community Bankers is the national trade association committed to shaping the future of
