ACB STATEMENT ON OXLEY’S RETIREMENT
Statement by Diane Casey-Landry, president and CEO, America’s Community Bankers, on the retirement of House Financial Services Committee Chairman Michael Oxley (R-Ohio)
On behalf of community banks across the country, ACB commends Chairman Oxley for his quarter century of dedicated service to his district and our nation. We wish him well in his future endeavors.
Chairman Oxley’s leadership and skill as a consensus builder has resulted in important legislation being passed on a bipartisan basis to benefit consumers and the financial services industry. As chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Oxley strongly supported competition, free markets and increasing choice for consumers, leaving behind an important legislative legacy for the financial services industry.
These accomplishments include the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which has brought more transparency to the finances of public companies; the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, which balanced new protections against identity theft with the need to maintain a national system of credit; the Check 21 Act, which provides a framework for banks to employ technology to improve the payments system; and the USA Patriot Act, which strengthened the joint effort of the private sector and the government in the war on terrorist financing.
America’s Community Bankers is the national trade association committed to shaping the future of
banking by being the innovative industry leader strengthening the competitive position of
community banks. To learn more about ACB, visit
